Nutmeg is the seed at the centre of the Myristica fragrans fruit, the same tree that gives you mace, from the lacy red membrane wrapped around that seed.
Around 80% of Sri Lanka's nutmeg comes from Kandy district, with Matale and Kegalle accounting for the rest. Ceylon Nutmeg carries its own geographical indication, recognising a flavour tied specifically to Sri Lanka's terroir. Every batch is bought directly from the farming families who grow it, and can be traced back to the estate it left.
